Youth Advised to Embrace Agriculture as Key Driver of Jobs and National Progress

Recent calls from national stakeholders urge Ghana’s youth to reclaim agriculture as a pathway to sustainable employment and national development. In an era of rising unemployment and economic uncertainty, agriculture is being repositioned not just as a source of subsistence, but as a strategic sector capable of yielding real income, resilience, and value-chain opportunities.

At Farmer Globale, we fully subscribe to this vision. Through our Youth Elevate Project, in partnership with Kosmos Innovation Center, we are working to transform how young people view and engage in farming. Technical trainings in the Volta Region expose participants to the full spectrum of agriculture — from crop cultivation to livestock and fisheries — combined with business skills and sustainable practices.

We believe that by equipping youth with modern tools, knowledge, and access to markets, we can help reverse negative perceptions of agriculture as “old-fashioned” or low-return work. Indeed, agriculture offers far more than food production: it provides pathways into post-harvest processing, agritech, input supply, logistics, marketing, and export.

As national voices call for youth to embrace farming, Farmer Globale stands ready — committed to turning that call into action. Through our interventions, we aim to nurture a generation of agripreneurs who will lead the transformation of Ghana’s agricultural sector, drive job creation, and build economic resilience from the ground up.

“From planting to harvest, the field rewarded my effort.”

Those are the inspiring words of Ahorsu Kate, a determined young farmer from the Ho West District in Ghana’s Volta Region. Her journey captures the essence of what the Youth Elevate Project stands for — empowerment, perseverance, and transformation through opportunity.

With support from the project, Kate received agricultural inputs and technical guidance that enabled her to cultivate two acres of rice and one acre of maize. What began as a small step toward self-reliance has grown into a powerful story of progress and hope. Her fields now reflect not only her hard work but also the impact of investing in Ghana’s young agripreneurs.

The Youth Elevate Project, implemented by Farmer Globale in partnership with the Kosmos Innovation Center (KIC), is helping hundreds of young people like Kate turn their agricultural ambitions into thriving enterprises. By providing access to inputs, training, and mentorship, the project empowers youth to see farming as a viable, profitable, and dignified career path.

Kate’s story reminds us that when young people are supported and equipped to succeed, they do more than produce crops—they feed their communities, strengthen local economies, and cultivate futures filled with promise.

At Farmer Globale, we are proud to celebrate Kate and all our Youth Elevate beneficiaries who are redefining the future of agriculture in Ghana — one seed, one harvest, and one success story at a time.

On May 9, 2025, Farmer Globale marked another milestone in its mission to promote youth-led agribusiness transformation with the official launch of the Starter Pack Distribution under the Youth Elevate Project in the Ho Municipality of the Volta Region.

Through this initiative, over 500 young agripreneurs across selected districts in the region are receiving essential agricultural inputs including certified seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, cutlasses, and boots to enable them to establish and expand their farm enterprises. This support forms a critical part of Farmer Globale’s broader strategy to strengthen agribusiness entrepreneurship among young people and enhance productivity across key value chains.

The event brought together key stakeholders and development partners who share a vision for sustainable agricultural growth. Distinguished guests included the Ho Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Steven Adom, and the Volta Regional Director of Agriculture, Mr. William Dzamefe, both of whom commended Farmer Globale’s leadership in driving youth engagement in agriculture and emphasized the importance of innovation and collaboration for sectoral transformation.

Speaking at the launch, Mr. Fred Kukubor, Managing Partner of Farmer Globale, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to building inclusive agricultural systems that create dignified jobs, foster economic empowerment, and make farming a business of choice for Ghana’s youth.

At Farmer Globale, we believe that empowering young people with the right tools, knowledge, and market access is essential to securing the future of agriculture. The Starter Pack initiative is not just about inputs it’s about igniting potential, building livelihoods, and driving sustainable agricultural growth across Ghana.

Enhancing Farmers’ Uptake of Digital Technologies – Farmer Globale’s Partnership with CSIR-STEPRI

At Farmer Globale, we believe that the future of agriculture lies in innovation, technology, and data-driven solutions. To realize this vision, we partnered with the Science and Technology Policy Research Institute (STEPRI), a leading arm of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), to launch the groundbreaking research initiative titled Enhancing Farmers’ Uptake of Digital Technologies through Empirical Research, Innovation, and Policy Intervention (EFUDTRIPI) Project.

This ambitious project aimed at increasing access to and the use of digital technologies by both small- and large-scale farmers across Ghana. We set out to study the current level of digital adoption, exploring the role that new technologies play in enhancing agricultural productivity and income. As digital transformation reshapes industries worldwide, our goal was to ensure that Ghanaian farmers are not left behind.

Key Focus Areas of the EFUDTRIPI Project

Assessment of Digital Technology Usage Through our collaboration with STEPRI, we sought to evaluate how farmers in Ghana are engaging with digital innovations such as mobile applications, drones, precision farming tools, and ICT platforms for real-time information exchange. By conducting empirical research on the adoption rates and usage patterns, we gathered crucial data to understand the barriers and opportunities in the adoption of digital technologies.

Impact on Agricultural Productivity and Income Digital solutions have the potential to revolutionize the agricultural sector, offering better crop management, early warning systems, and data-driven decision-making. One of the core objectives of this research was to assess the impact of these technologies on farmers’ productivity and, more importantly, how they translated into higher income levels for farmers. This also extended to the increased income generation for ICT4Ag service providers, ensuring that the entire ecosystem thrives.

Development of Data Collection Tools The project also involved the development of comprehensive data collection tools, including detailed questionnaires and digital surveys, designed to capture farmers’ interactions with technology. To ensure the accuracy and effectiveness of the data, a team of enumerators was trained to conduct interviews and gather insights from both smallholder and large-scale farmers.

Policy Dialogue and Innovation for the Future Upon the completion of the research, the findings were synthesized into a working document. This research has not only provided critical insights into the current state of digital technology uptake but has also contributed to shaping the future of agricultural policy in Ghana. In 2023, we hosted a policy dialogue workshop, where stakeholders, including government agencies, technology providers, and farmers, reviewed the research outcomes and adopted the findings as a foundation for policy interventions aimed at boosting the digitalization of agriculture in Ghana.

A Future Driven by Innovation and Collaboration
Farmer Globale is committed to building strong partnerships that drive innovation and promote sustainability in agriculture. Our collaboration with CSIR-STEPRI through the EFUDTRIPI Project underscores our dedication to helping farmers access the best technologies and tools available, empowering them to increase their productivity and incomes.

We’re excited to continue working towards our vision of a future where digital technologies are an integral part of every farmer’s toolkit, fostering economic growth and improving livelihoods for farmers across Ghana.

Stay tuned as we keep pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in agriculture through innovation, technology, and collaboration.
